How to Create Dynamic Sliders in WordPress

Do you wish to change your static website from a constant layout to a dynamic one?

In this article we shall see how to add dynamic content to your site.

What is Dynamic Content?

Dynamic content changes over time according to your posts and user’s behaviour and preferences. It allows the site to adapt according to the situation and user and hence every user might see different content every time they visit the website. If your website publishes blogs or is an online store, you can use dynamic content. For example we see different products every time we visit the home page of Amazon.

Why Add Dynamic Content to Your Website?

  • It makes your site very user-friendly. The user sees the content they visited the site for, hence keeps them on your site for a longer period of time.
  • Helps you display more relevant content.
  • Loads faster most of the times.

Types of Dynamic Sliders:

Dynamic Post Content Slider:

There will be posts where you need to add content or a small description along with the images. Consider a clothing brand needs to display the images of all its stores across the city. Just the images won’t really make sense in this post, instead if you add further details about the store like the address of that branch or their contact details along with the store image; this shall help your viewer get more relevant information.

Dynamic Post Content Slider can be used in such situations; it helps you provide more and required information dynamically.

Dynamic Image Slider:

A dynamic image slider is used to display a series of images in your site. For example the same clothing brand has to display clothes available; we can use dynamic image slider.

You can add as many images as you want from your site’s database in your dynamic image slider.

Plugins Used to Create Dynamic Sliders:

How to Create a Dynamic Post Content Slider?

We shall be using the Toolset plugin to understand the process of creating Dynamic Sliders.

Step 1: Install and activate the “Toolset” plugin.

Step 2: Go to the dashboard of WordPress and then click on “Toolset” menu. We will be creating the post and its layout before actually creating the slider.

To create a custom post type, go to ‘Edit Post type’ of your post.

Fill in the required details like name, description and other details.

Further, to add content we will need to set the custom post field for each post. This will help you store multiple data at a time.

In the gallery you created, again fill in the basic details like field name and field type.

Next you will see “Single or repeating fields”, select the “Allow multiple instances of this field” option.

Create various custom field types according to the requirements of your site.

Step 3: Go to Toolset and add View Block. On inserting the block, set up a few parameters you wish in your slider like search bar, pagination and others.

Now, select the view block from the block navigation option and add new container blocks to it.

In these container blocks you can add images, background image, texts and any other content you wish to.

Finally, save the Dynamic Post Content Slider and check it on your website preview.

How to Create a Dynamic Image Slider:

Step 1: Create a custom post type and post fields just like we did in the previous method.

(Step 1 and 2 remain the same for this method as well)

Step 2: Next, let us add media to our post. By clicking on the “Add New” button (+) add images to your slider.

Step 3: Now, add your dynamic image slider to a pre-created template. In the custom field option select your gallery name from the drop down options.

Finally, preview the dynamic image slider in your website. While checking the website switch between different posts to ensure that your dynamic slider is loading along with other contents.

Conclusion:

Dynamic content has become one of the most important parts of every website today. It gives a personalised experience to every user keeping them on your website for a longer period of time and ensuring that your viewer returns to your site.

There are two types of dynamic sliders- Dynamic Post Content Slider and Dynamic Image Slider.

We have seen how to create both of them using the Toolset plugins. The process for creating dynamic sliders using other plugins is quite similar as well.
