How to Embed Videos in WordPress Blog Posts

Adding Videos in a blog/article enriches your content and it attracts the visitors. Videos help to increase the user’s interactivity and engagement. This in turn promotes the blog and improves its ranking in Google Search. The only issue is videos consume a lot of resources and memory space. There are chances your website might crash in case the server experiences huge traffic. So, the only solution is to embed videos in your WordPress website rather than directly uploading them.

Embedding videos will enable the traffic from video streaming sites e.g., YouTube, Vimeo, etc., and social media sites e.g., Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc. Also, backlinks from such sites can also help you to improve your search rankings, which translates to more traffic.

In this article, we have explained the different ways in which you can embed videos in your WordPress Blog Posts.

Method 1: Embed Videos using Auto Embed Feature

WordPress has an in-built feature i.e., auto-embeds which allows you to embed videos, audio, images, documents, and text from one site to another. You can automatically embed the videos from popular video hosting services (YouTube, Vimeo) to your website, all you need to do is paste the source URL into the WordPress editor.

NOTE: WordPress can only do auto-embeds for white-listed video services. For other websites, you will still have to obtain the embed code and then paste it in your blog posts.

Step 1: Go to the video hosting service website, For Example YouTube. Search for the video you want to embed and copy the URL. You can copy the video URL from the browser address bar or just right click on the video and select Copy Video URL.

Step 2: Now, navigate to the page or post where you want to add the video. You can either choose to Edit an existing page/post or create a new one. Click on the + icon in the Visual Editor to add a new block and Search for Embed

Step 3: Click on Embed and Paste the video URL code you copied before.

You can also add the ‘Video Block’ in your Visual Editor to embed videos. Click on Insert from the URL button and paste the URL code.

Step 4: Once you paste the URL, video will be automatically embedded in your website. You can change the alignment of the video, adjust the video width and add a caption.

In the end, click on Update to save your changes. The Final Result – Website page after embedding the video.

Method 2: Copy – Paste the Iframe code

You can easily embed videos in your WordPress website with the help of iframe code. The Iframe code allows you to customize how you want to display the video on your post/page.

Step 1: Go to the video hosting service website, Example: YouTube and Search for the video you want to embed. Click on Share Button and select Embed.

Step 2: You will find the iframe code in the Embed Video section. Scroll down and you will get an option to set the starting time of the video, enabling the player controls i.e., play/pause, volume, caption, Full screen options. Click on Copy.

Step 3: Now, go to the Visual Editor and click on the + icon to add a new block – Custom HTML. Paste the iframe code here and click on Update/Publish.
