How to Fix Gboard Not Working Issue on Android?

Solutions for Gboard not working

Fix 1: Restarting the device

Restarting is the first resort for any problem for the majority of smartphone users. At times, it solves problems too. Hence, it must be your first options not only with Gboard issues but when anything goes wrong with your Android device. What’s more, this is the easiest solution to fix your Gboard issues considering everybody knows how to restart their smartphones.

Just press and hold your power button and wait till the power menu comes up, and then click on Restart. In some devices, it might be the case that users have to press an additional button along with the power button to access the power menu.

Fix 2: Clearing the cache memory

If restarting your Android handset doesn’t solve the Gboard issue, the second-best option is clearing the cache.

The cache is a type of memory on your smartphones that stores data of the apps that you frequently use on your device. Storing programs on the cache help your smartphone perform faster by loading the data directly from the cache. Step 1: Go to setting and click on apps from the list of options.

Step 2: Search for and click on Gboard from the list of apps.

Step 3: Tap on storage

Step 4: Click on a clear cache.

Fix 3: Uninstalling Updates

If the previous two methods don’t work, then it is time for you to uninstall any new updates. A new update can sometimes cause an app function weirdly because of compatibility issues.

Updates are usually rolled out to bring security patches, new features, and fix bugs. However, these updates may stop apps from functioning on your device properly. Therefore, rolling back to a previous state might solve the problem in such a case.

Follow the below steps to uninstall the new Gboard update on your smartphone.

Step 1: Go to setting and click on apps from the list of options.

Step 2: Search for Gboard and click on it.

Step 3: Click on the three dots at the upper right corner of the screen.

Step 4: Tap on uninstall updates.

Fix 4: Force Stop or Uninstall

Just like restarting your Android phone is a potent way of resolving issues of your phone, force stop can also have the same impact. Sometimes just a mere force stop is enough to get everything back into place. However, at times you need to delete the entire application from your phone and install it again to make it work properly.

Hence, start with a force stop first and if things are not back to normal, go all out and uninstall the app. Stick to the following steps to perform force stop and then uninstall if force stop doesn’t work.

Step 1: Go to setting and click on apps from the list of options.

Step 2: Search for Gboard and click on it.

Step 3: Click on Force Stop and then tap on, Ok to confirm.

Relaunch it and see if the app is working fine; if not, follow the below steps.

Step 3: Tap on Uninstall and then Ok to confirm.

After that, reinstall the app and see if it is working fine.

Fix 5: Enable the Gboard

Every Android smartphone comes with a default keyboard, though in most cases, the default keyboard is Gboard. However, it might be the case that your defacto keyboard is not Gboard. Hence, you need to enable the Gboard, in that case. Here are the steps to do so.

Step 1: Go to settings

Step 2: Click on Language and Input

Step 3: Tap on the Virtual Keyboard.

Step 4: Select the Gboard as your default keyboard.

It is no surprise since Gboard might be the only keyboard available on the internet, which fits so excellently well with other Google services.
