Are you weary of receiving spam and robocalls? Well, there is good news for iPhone users. With the iOS13, Apple has introduced a new Silence Unknown Callers feature that would allow you to mute robocalls and calls from the people you don’t know. This feature can be enabled with a simple toggle switch and it mutes all the calls that are not in your contact list.
The feature allows you to receive calls from people who are in your contact list as well as from the phone numbers which you made a recent outgoing call. You will also receive a call from the number if Siri finds the contact in the Messages and Mail. The rest of the calls will be automatically muted and sent to voicemail. In this article, we have explained in detail how to automatically silence spam and unknown calls on iPhone.
How to automatically silence spam and unknown calls on iPhone?
As mentioned earlier, you can silence the unknown calls automatically using the inbuilt feature. Once the feature is enabled all your calls will be silenced and sent to voicemail. You can check the numbers from unknown calls in the Recent list. However, you will keep receiving the incoming calls from your contact, Siri suggestions and recent outgoing calls.
Before proceeding make sure you have saved all your important contacts so that you don’t miss on them. Here is how to automatically silence spam and unknown calls on iPhone running iOS13.
Enable Silence Unknown Callers in iPhone
- On your iPhone, go to Settings.
- Scroll down and tap the option Phone from the menu.
- Now under the CALL SILENCING AND BLOCKED CONTACTS, tap on the toggle switch next to the option Silence Unknown Callers.
- Once done, the feature will be now enabled and all the calls from the unknown number will be silenced.
While this feature appears as if your device has blocked the number, you can still view all the calls from unknown numbers in the Recents list of the Phone app. Additionally, you can find the number in a voicemail if it is enabled.
It is important to note that some calls might be important even if it is from an unknown number. In such a case, we recommend you to enable Voicemail and check if there is any voice mail from the callers which needs an immediate response. As long as you are keeping a tab on your Voicemails and Recent lists in the Phone app, it is less likely that you miss on an emergency call. You can choose to call back the number in your recent list and voicemail if it is from an important caller, or you can choose to ignore if its a spam.
If for some reason you don’t want to mute the unknown calls, there are alternatives to Silence Unknown Callers features. You can enable Do Not Disturb feature that would allow only selected numbers to call you. Alternatively, you can manually block the number from a spam caller in your iOS device. It is interesting to note that there are some third-party apps which will automatically block most of the spam calls. However, it might not be accurate always and may fail to block some spam calls.
Set up an app to filter and detect spam calls
Meanwhile, you can set up an app to filter and detect spam calls. So when you receive a call from the unknown number it matches it with the third-party spam apps. If there is a match, it labels the number as Spam or Telemarketing. Here is how to set up an app to filter and detect spam calls.
- On your, iPhone, go to App store and download the apps from different developers to filter spam calls here.
- Once the installation is complete, go to Settings and Tap Phone.
- Now Tap Call Blocking & Identification.
- Under Allow These Apps To Block Calls And Provide Caller ID, toggle the switch next to the app as On or Off.
- Tap Edit and arrange apps based on how you want to set priority. If the app labels the incoming call as spam it blocks it automatically.
Nothing is more frustrating than spam and robocalls interrupting your business. Apple’s Silence Unknown Callers feature uses Siri intelligence to silence the spam calls and calls from the people which are not in your contact list, mail or messages.
