How to Use Continuity Camera to Scan Documents into your Mac using iPhone

Before proceeding make sure your devices meet the following requirements.

  • First ensure your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch devices is running iOS 12 or later. 
  • Make sure your Mac is running macOS Mojave or newer.
  • Your Mac and iOS device must be signed in to iCloud with the same Apple ID 
  • Ensure the WiFi is enabled on your Mac and iOS device. They must be connected to the same WiFi network. 
  • You must enable Bluetooth on both your iOS device and Mac.

How to add a photo with Continuity Camera 

To add a photo to your Mac using an iOS device follow the below steps. 

  • On your Mac, open app like Mail, Messages, Pages that supports the Continuity Camera feature.
  • Move the cursor to the place where you want the photo to appear. Control-click or right-click in the document or window where you want to add the photo.
  • In the contextual menu, select Import from iPhone or iPad option.
  • If you are using multiple iOS devices, your Mac will give you an option to choose one Now Choose to Take Photo under your iOS device. This will open the camera app on your iPad or iPhone.
  • Switch to your iPhone and place your iOS device at the object you want to capture.
  • Tap the shutter button on your camera to take a photo.
  • Then tap Use photo. The photo appears on your window or document in an app you chose on your Mac.

How to scan a document with Continuity Camera 

Continuity Camera is super useful when you want to quickly add a scanned document to your Mail or Pages. However, the quality of the scanned documents depends on your camera properties. 

  • On your Mac, open app like Mail, Messages, Pages that supports the Continuity Camera feature.
  • Move the cursor to the place where you want the scan to appear. Control-click or right-click in the document or window where you to add your scan.
  • In the drop-down menu, select Import from iPhone or iPad option.
  • Now choose the option Scan Documents under your iOS device. This will open the camera app on your iPad or iPhone.
  • Switch to your iPhone and place the document which you want to scan in view of the camera on your iOS device. 
  • Tap the shutter button on your camera to manually capture a scan and adjust the corners to fit the page. 
  • You can take some more additional scans or tap Save if you are done.
  • Then tap Keep Scan. The scan appears in the form of  PDF document on your window or document in an app you chose on your Mac.
